A well-trained dog is a happy dog. And a well-trained dog means a happy owner. So show your dog how much you care by enrolling in our Dog Manners classes. For dogs and puppies more than four-and-a-half months old, our classes use positive reinforcement. No need for choke collars, pinch collars, or shock collars!
Classes are limited to six dogs to allow each one plenty of one-on-one time with our trainers—all of whom are experienced members of APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers). Classes are held in the evening in the auditorium of the Austin Humane Society. New sessions begin each month, and each course lasts four consecutive weeks, so please check the calendar below and join us!
Class Description: Learn to train with a fun reward based method that helps to build a trusting relationship between you and your dog. Some of the things you will learn are Sit, Down, Watch and Leave It. Think of all the things your dog can't do while practicing one of these good behaviors, such as jumping on children, charging the door, or clearing the coffee table with his tail! We also teach the very important life-saving Recall.
Classes are held in the evening in the auditorium of the Austin Humane Society and each class is two hours long.
Class Description: Inspired by working detection dogs, K9 Nose Work® is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise.
By engaging these once neglected and mistreated dogs in the activity of K9 Nose Work® Julie plans to bring real and positive change to their behavior.
K9 Nose Work® starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat reward hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. As the dog grows more confident with his nose, target odors are introduced, and competition skills are taught should one desire.
Happy, confident, approachable dogs find safe, lifelong homes with caring people. K9 Nose Work® can help make the transition from shelter or rescue to permanent home, a positive experience.
