The Zilker Kite Festival is the oldest of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1929, the Kite Festival is held the first Sunday in March. There are numerous contest held such as Most Unusual Kite, Largest Kite, Smallest Kite, and Strongest Pulling Kite. Numerous food vendors are present as well as other activities for family fun. New this year, HEB will be sponsoring the Pet Zone adding furry friendly goodies, dog-friendly events, and hosting the Austin Humane Society from 11 am to 3 pm.
