Success Stories

We  adopted Alex and renamed her Pippa (Pip for short almost always). She's settled in very well and enjoys playing with her brother Augie.  She also enjoys playing with kids when we visit family and, as you'll see from the pictures, likes to bundle up when it's cold. Since we've adopted her she's become much more energetic, but still finds ample time to nap.She likes stuffed toys, fluffy pillows (as I'm writing this she perched herself on a couch pillow next to me), and crunchy treats, and she hates waking up to go on her first morning walk.

We're so happy to have Pip and we're thankful for the service you provide and the hard work you do to make sure she and other animals get good care and loving homes and that people like us can find pets to care for and enrich our lives. Thank you so much.

I adopted Trooper at 10 years old after his previous owner passed away. He had shyness issues and had  already been adopted once and returned to AHS. Now he lives with us and his shyness is a thing of the past. He plays like a kitten with his brothers, Tank and Chaos and is another joy in my life. Thank you AHS for not giving up on the seniors. They make the best housemates!

My fiance and I adopted Harrietta (now renamed Foxy- see the picture for the  reason) from AHS in August 2010. When we met her, she tried to be invisible-  she stayed low to the ground and was hesitant to even look at us. But we  brought our dog Delilah in to meet her the next day, and she came to life-  they played for almost an hour. All of the employees and volunteers at AHS  couldn't understand why she hadn't been adopted yet, which we took as a sign  that we had to get her! We brought her home with us, and at first she was  terrified to be in a new place. But after slow and steady reassurance, she  has turned into an incredibly loving, energetic, and outgoing dog. Our family  would not be complete without her! We have made a commitment to only adopt  dogs from shelters in the future :)

We adopted Tony in July. We fell in love with him when we transported him to the vet for hip x-rays. He developed a URI and was in iso for a couple of weeks before he was adoptable. The adoption process was finally started just days before our oldest cat's kidney failure proved fatal so it was a bittersweet week. We nursed Tony though a nasty infection this summer which the 30 days of free pet insurance covered. Tony doesn't get around too well most of the time but occasionally he surprises another of our pets with a quick pounce. Usually he is content to just chill out or get some quality time. He has an astonishing appetite and whenever he hears someone in the kitchen he ambles out to cry for another can of food. He has just gotten bigger than our chihuahua which as you can see is his good buddy.  We'd be the first to advocate adopting a pet with special needs from AHS. This was our second.
