Featured Dog: Sasha
Are you looking for a new canine companion? Perhaps a gentle dog and moderate excercise companinion? Then I might be the perfect fit!

My name is Sasha am a sweet, loving girl with a HUGE heart. I know many basic commands such as Sit, Down, Wait, & Spin Around. I am living in a foster home with other dogs and we get along great, with lots of play time. I have also lived with cats before and was polite with them. I love to cuddle with people! I am a sensitive girl, and will do best in a home with a firm, but gentle owner to guide me through life. I do best with daily exercise, such as a morning and an afternoon walk or run of about 30 minutes each. I would be a great jogging partner. I LOVE to play fetch and to swim! My foster home is great, but I am ready for my forever home. Ask to visit with me!
“Sasha is truly a great, great dog.” —Whitney, Sasha’s Foster Mom
I’m in foster because the noise and activity of the shelter is too stressful for me.
ASPCA Visits Town Lake Animal Center
A team of shelter veterinary experts from Texas A&M and Cornell, associated with the ASPCA, traveled to Town Lake Animal Center last week to conduct a two day on-site evaluation of TLAC's operations and programs.
"An on-site visit provides a chance to explore together with the shelter opportunities that may improve animal health and welfare and ultimately save more lives in Austin," says Dr. Miranda Spindel, ASPCA Director of Veterinary Outreach and one of the attending experts.
Now that the evaluation has been completed, the experts will present TLAC with research-based recommendations intended to help TLAC increase the number of pets reunited with their owners and adopted out, and decrease the number of animals euthanized. We are anxious to see what the expert panel suggests!
The same group of experts will be evaluating Emancipet, Animal Trustees of Austin, and Austin Humane Society over the next few months. We are all excited to learn how we can continue to improve animal care in Austin.
Hazards of the Heat on Your Pets
On Friday, the police were called to Whole Foods Market by employees who heard a one-month old lab puppy in distress from with in a locked car in hundred degree heat. The dog was confiscated by police and is currently at Town Lake Animal Center to ensure its safety and health until it is decided if there will be charges placed on the owner.
This is just one recent example of the potentially fatal effects of the heat on pets. Remember, it is NEVER ok to leave your pet in a locked car -- cracked windows will not save him from potentially fatal heat exhaustion.
