AHS Helps Over 9,000 Animals in 2011AHS Helps Over 9,000 Animals in 2011

During the past year, AHS has transformed the lives of over 9,000 homeless, abandoned and neglected animals thanks to the support of our wonderful donors like you! This year we achieved great milestones: we spayed our 20,000th feral cat, hired a second full-time veterinarian, began housing cats in PetsMart and Petco, allowing us to increase the numbers of cats we take into our care, and we opened our shelter to the public seven days a week! But most notably, we saved more lives than ever before: the month of August was a record-breaking adoption month, with 517 adoptions, the most adoptions in a single month since AHS opened its doors in 1952. This is a 22% increase over the previous record of 421 in July of 2010.

We also witnessed unimaginable disasters and hardships. In May, we rescued over 150 dogs that were living in deplorable conditions in a single home, provided them with grooming, medical care and love, and found them all forever homes. In September, we rescued and cared for over 170 animals victimized by the Bastrop wildfires, providing them with specialized medical care until their owners could reclaim them. And because of the generosity of donors like you, we were able to provide 100% of this care for free to their owners, many of whom had lost everything.

Without the ongoing support of donors like you, we wouldn't be able to make such a dramatic impact on our community each and every year. Please consider making a year-end tax-deductible donation today to help us ensure that we can save even more lives in 2012!

Your donation allows us to save the lives of dogs like Mabel, who we were able to provide life-saving abdominal surgery and heartworm treatment to, and cats like Boo, who we cared for during the Bastrop fires until his family could claim him and they could be safely reunited.
