Patio VIP Program

All the other dogs are asking -- what does it take to be a Very Important Pooch (VIP)? How do I get to be out of my kennel and hang out on the AHS patio on a Saturday afternoon? Bark bark bark!!!

Every other Saturday, we highlight two to three VIPs, who are in need of some special attention and extra exposure to potential adopters because they are having more difficulty finding their new family.  So, on these Saturdays, they get to lounge on our large, covered front patio with our dedicated volunteers from about noon to 4, in hopes of meeting that someone who is as 'important' as they are to adopt them!  It's hard to know the exact reason why these VIPs are here for longer than their dog-peers we can only guess that it could be because they are highly energetic and need an experienced owner that is dedicated to training, or it's because they are sad or stressed in the shelter and their true personalities don't come through, or it could be due to a medical condition such as heartworms that requires treatment with some recovery time -- but these are only guesses. We know that they will make amazing companions and we want you to meet them on Saturday!

Here's Mojo and Tiara to tell you a little about themselves:

I'm Mojo, smart and sensitive. I get a bit excited in the kennels around other dogs, but outside I love being with people and have good manners toward dogs in the distance. My favorite thing is playing ball or with toys with someone. I sit for treats and am gentle and attentive with my handler. I have lived inside the house and slept in a crate in the past. I got along great with older kids and love playing with them. I'm looking for a good owner who will build my confidence and self-control, be a good, consistent leader for me. I'm healthy and not too big, about 50 pounds. I'm perfect for someone. Could it be you? Please come get to know me.

Are you ready to go? My name is Tiara, and I'm a young and exuberant Bull Terrier mix who likes to be on the move! I'm a sleek healthy girl, and at about 40 lbs I probably won't get much bigger. I really love to run around the field up here and play fetch with stuffed toys and tennis balls. I'm a smart little girl, too, so training with me will be a lot of fun. I still need to develop some really good manners, but that's where you come in! If you're looking for an active companion, come check me out!
