Full-Time Position:  Development Manager

The Development Manager is responsible for securing grants; manages a variety of donation programs, including direct mail, online giving, Friendship Wall, and monthly donors; answers general donation calls & emails; assists with fundraising events; and provides administrative support for the AHS Director of Development & Marketing.  The Development Manager reports to the Director of Development & Marketing and works with a variety of volunteers, staff and other constituents. 

Essential Functions:

Grants

  • Research & write grant proposals
  • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines & organized grant files
  • Submit grant reports

Donation Programs

  • Respond to general donation calls and emails within 24 hours
  • Manage the direct mail program and act as the liaison to the direct mail vendor
  • Manage the Friendship Wall donation program, monthly donor program, and online giving, including solicitation, materials, records, communicating with donors, and assuring appropriate donor recognition
  • Manage AHS participation in workplace giving fairs & speaking engagements
  • Represent AHS at workplace giving fairs, speaking engagements, and other events as needed.

Events - Responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of fundraising events with an average gift under $500 including: 

  • Work with the Public Relations Manager to create marketing materials and plans for promotion
  • Procure and manage special events supplies and their use
  • Responsible for the development and management of budgets
  • Work with Director of Development & Marketing in negotiating event/entertainment contracts
  • Manage correspondence (including acknowledgements, reports, and general information)
  • Establish, update, and maintain special event records
  • Maintain purchase orders on a routine basis
  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain sponsor relations and relevant community contacts
  • Manage the solicitation and sale of auction items for annual gala including manage auction volunteers, utilize auction software to maintain records, manage physical inventory of items, and creation of bid sheets

Administrative Support

  • Support the Director of Development & Marketing, including assistance with scheduling, correspondence, reports, research, record keeping, and other administrative projects

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • A minimum of one year experience in nonprofit development, including experience successfully securing grants
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, including the ability to maintain accuracy of details in a fast-paced setting
  • Ability to handle complex and confidential information
  • An energetic self starter
  • Advanced computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office required and Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Commitment to the mission and values of AHS
